The Best Things You Can Do to Stay Organised When Moving Home.

Moving home is often cited as one of the most stressful life events, but with a bit of planning and organisation, it doesn’t have to be. Whether you’re moving across town or to a different part of the country, staying organised can make the process smoother and more efficient. Here are eight top tips to help you stay on top of things during your move.

1. Start with a Declutter

Before you even think about packing, take the time to declutter your home. Go through each room and decide what you really need and what can be donated, sold, or thrown away. This not only reduces the number of items you need to move but also gives you a fresh start in your new home. Remember, there’s no point in taking items you never use.

2. Create a Moving Checklist

Having a moving checklist is essential. List all the tasks you need to complete before, during, and after the move. This could include notifying utility companies, changing your address, and organising packing materials. A detailed checklist ensures you won’t forget any important steps.

3. Gather Packing Supplies Early

Don’t leave getting packing supplies to the last minute. Gather boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, tape, and markers well in advance. Having everything ready before you start packing will make the process much more efficient and less stressful.

4. Label Your Boxes

Labelling your boxes clearly is one of the best ways to stay organised. Write the contents and the destination room on each box. Consider using a colour-coding system with different coloured markers or stickers for each room. This will make unpacking much easier, as movers will know exactly where each box belongs.

5. Pack One Room at a Time

Focus on packing one room at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Start with the rooms you use the least, such as guest rooms or storage areas. This methodical approach helps keep things organised and ensures you don’t miss anything.

6. Keep Essentials Separate

Pack a separate box or bag with essentials you’ll need immediately upon arrival at your new home. This could include toiletries, a change of clothes, important documents, basic kitchen items, and any necessary electronics. Having these items readily available will make your first day and night much more comfortable.

7. Use a Moving Folder

Keep all your moving-related documents in one place by using a moving folder. This can include contracts, moving company information, receipts, and your checklist. Having everything in one folder means you can easily access any information you need without rummaging through packed boxes.

8. Enlist Help

Moving can be a big job, so don’t hesitate to ask for help. Whether it’s friends, family, or professional movers, having extra hands can make the process much quicker and easier. Plan ahead and organise who will be helping you on moving day.
